Directions Hearings

Directions hearings may be held in circumstances where the Commissioners need to determine, or make directions with respect to, procedural issues affecting the conduct of the Commission’s inquiry or the interests of a party with leave to appear.

Directions hearings may be held in circumstances where the Commissioners need to determine, or make directions with respect to, procedural issues affecting the conduct of the Commission’s inquiry or the interests of a party with leave to appear. For example, a directions hearing might be required where a party makes a claim for confidentiality over a document and there is a disagreement about whether a non-publication direction should be made, or where the Commissioners are asked to direct parties as to the timing or process for providing evidence to the Commission.

Directions hearings do not deal with substantive matters relating to the Commission’s inquiry and generally do not involve examination of witnesses.
